The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is about to wrap up its first season. The eighth and final episode airs this Friday on Amazon Prime Video.

So in case you were wondering, we won’t get any more Rings of Power for quite a while after that. This first season has eight episodes and out. That may be a little disappointing to some; over on HBO, House of the Dragon got a full 10 episodes for its first season. But considering how much money Amazon is spending on The Rings of Power, maybe eight is what they could swing right out of the gate.

There will be more, though. Word on the second season of The Rings of Power is already underway, so we’ll be getting another eight episodes at minimum in a couple of years. Given the scale of this production, don’t expect more until at least 2024.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power number of episodes

Moreover, producers on The Rings of Power have said that they intend to keep the show going for five seasons. That could mean a total of 40 episodes by the time all is said and done, assuming they stick to the eight-episodes-per-season blueprint set in this first go-round.

But right now, that’s all in the future, and things could change. We can enjoy the eighth and final episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 on Friday.
