Marvel Studios is hitting the pause button on the production of its new Blade movie, which was set to begin shooting in November. Blade is one of many upcoming Marvel movies to have its release date changed. The vampire thriller will now hit theaters on September 6 2024, 10 month after its original date of November 3 2023. The delay comes two weeks after it was reported that Blade’s director Bassam Tariq abruptly left the project.

“Due to continued shifts in our production schedule, Bassam is no longer moving forward as director of Blade but will remain an executive producer on the film,” Marvel told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. “We appreciate Bassam’s talent and all the work he’s done getting Blade to where it is.”

Bassam’s resume is short, with his most recent project being Mogul Mowgli, a drama starring Riz Ahmed.

The Blade remake was announced at San Diego Comic Con in 2019, and is set to star Oscar winning actor Mahershala Ali in the titular role. Wesley Snipes previously brought the vampire slayer to the big screen in three different films from the early 2000s. Production is tentatively scheduled to resume early in 2023, assuming a new director is found in time.

Deadpool 3Fantastic FourAvengers: Secret Wars also delayed

The Blade delay forces a reshuffling of several other projects. Deadpool 3 is being delayed from September 6, 2024 to November 8, 2024. Fantastic Four is going from November 8, 2024 to February 14, 2025, and Avengers: Secret Wars has been pushed back from November 7, 2025 to May 1, 2026.

Meanwhile, an untitled Marvel film has been pushed from February 14, 2025 to November 7, 2025, and another untitled Marvel film originally set for May 1, 2026 has been removed from Disney’s calendar entirely.

If you’d like some good movie release date news, Warner Bros. has actually moved the premiere of Dune: Part 2 up a few weeks, from November 17, 2023 to November 3. So there’s a bit of silver lining.
