Watch the trailer for House of the Dragon Episode 10: “The Black Queen”
By Daniel Roman
The penultimate episode of House of the Dragon season 1 is behind us, and now it’s time to get our first good look at the show’s season finale. “The Green Council” focused exclusively on the coup in King’s Landing and the green faction, as Alicent Hightower, Otto Hightower, and the rest vied to assert power in the wake of King Viserys’ death. They succeeded in supplanting the rightful heir Rhaenyra Targaryen with her half-brother Aegon, only to have the coronation crashed by their former prisoner Rhaenys on her dragon.
Next week, we’ll catch up with Daemon, Rhaenyra, and the blacks to see how they react to the realm-shattering events of tonight’s episode. Check out the trailer for the season finale, “The Black Queen,” right here:
Dragons take to the sky in the House of the Dragon season finale trailer
After a season’s worth of buildup, we’ve finally arrived at the start of the Dance of the Dragons. “The Black Queen” will show how Rhaenyra responds to having her throne usurped by Alicent and the greens. From the looks of things, it’ll be pretty intense. Dragons abound in this trailer; I count at least five different ones.
“The Black Queen,” looks to be focused almost entirely on Rhaenyra’s response after Rhaenys delivers the dire news about the greens’ coup. We see her, her children, and their allies all gathered around the Painted Table at Dragonstone, where so many important wars are planned over the course of Westerosi history. Daemon Targaryen soothes a dragon in the darkness, and Jacaerys Velaryon urges his mother to send him on a journey. There’s also a brief glimpse of Aemond Targaryen removing his eye patch, so at least one of the greens will be making an appearance.
We’ll be breaking down the trailer shot by shot tomorrow, so be sure to check back for the deep dive on what to expect in the season finale. “The Black Queen” airs on HBO and HBO Max next Sunday, October 23.
