Hannah Waddingham recalls getting recognized as the Shame Nun from Game of Thrones
By Dan Selcke
Hannah Waddingham won an Emmy for her role as Rebecca on Ted Lasso, but she may be known as Septa Unella, aka the nun who followed a naked Cersei Lannister through the streets of King’s Landing while ringing a bell and yelling “shame” on Game of Thrones.
Speaking to The Zoe Report, Waddingham remembered some of the times Game of Thrones fans have recognized her, like when she was in an airport with her then-18-month-old child, about to fly out to film the sixth season of the show. “I only get recognized as Septa Unella when I haven’t got any make-up on,” she said. “You can imagine what that was like, trying to get her to take her bottle. I was just totally in mommy mode, and this guy sitting next to me went, ‘Would I be right in thinking you can ring my bell?’ I was like, ‘My God, note to self: Put a little lipstick on next time.’”
Waddingham has fun with it, though, and sometimes you get perks, like when flight attendants chat her up about the part. “You’re all holed up, and they don’t say it in a horrible way. They say it in a lovely, cheeky way, and then they leave you alone and give you a really lovely drink.”
It can’t be all bad if you get a drink out of it.
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson retires from boxing
In other Game of Thrones celebrity news, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who played the Gregor “the Mountain” Clegane, has announced his retirement from boxing.
Now, it’s possible you’re thinking, ‘I thought he was an actor.’ He is. He’s also a professional strongman. And for the past couple of years he’s also participated in exhibition boxing matches against the likes of fellow strongman Eddie Hall. But no more! “I had a good run, I did it for two-and-a-half years. It was nice to do so, because when I first started I had a lot of people not believing in me,” Björnsson said on his YouTube channel. “I proved a lot of people wrong by working hard and I made some people proud. In reality, the passion was never there, it was all grind as I never really loved the sport. That’s just the truth, but I have a lot of respect for the sport because I know how much work goes into it.”
So what will Björnsson do now? “I have two new goals, I have two new cats and I want to break one of my world records,” he said. “The world record I’m trying to beat is the weight over the bar with 25kg. My record is 20 feet and two inches, so I have to beat that to break my own record.”
Honestly, I’m more intrigued by the two cats, but I hope he’s happy, whatever he does.
