Nielsen, ever the most reliable purveyor of TV ratings, have released the streaming numbers for the week of September 19-25. What were people streaming late last month? Take a look:

  1. Dahmer (Netflix): 3.648 billion minutes watched
  2. Cobra Kai (Netflix): 1.110 billion minutes
  3. House of the Dragon (HBO Max): 1.008 billion minutes
  4. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Amazon Prime Video): 997 million minutes watched
  5. In The Dark (Netflix): 918 million minutes
  6. Cocomelon (Netflix): 817 million minutes
  7. Father Stu (Netflix): 707 million minutes
  8. Lou (Netflix): 681 million minutes
  9. Fate: The Winx Saga (Netflix): 675 million minutes
  10. El Rey, Vincente Fernández (Netflix): 648 million minutes

Netflix dominates the chart more than usual. Dahmer, Ryan Murphy’s show about the infamous serial killer, has become the second highest-rated show in the streamer’s history. It dropped on September 21 and clearly people ate it up. Meanwhile, Cobra Kai was at the top of the charts the week prior with nearly 2 billion minutes watched. It was still going very strong this week.

House of the Dragon is doing even better than these numbers suggest

Meanwhile, the battle between fantasy titans House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power continues. During this ratings period, House of the Dragon released both its fifth and sixth episodes, while The Rings of Power released its fourth and fifth.

The numbers for both shows are better here than they were the week before. However, this is the first time that House of the Dragon has been streamed more than The Rings of Power. And as always, we have to point out that these numbers are only for streaming; they don’t cover shows watched linearly over normal TV. That’s important, because while The Rings of Power is only available to stream through Amazon Prime Video, House of the Dragon can be either streamed on HBO Max or watched on HBO. So not only was House of the Dragon streamed more than The Rings of Power this week, there were also a lot of minutes watched via regular TV not accounted for on this chart.

If those numbers were accounted for, I’m willing to bet that House of the Dragon would at least leapfrog Cobra Kai to take second place, although I dunno if there’s any way to best Dahmer. People really like serial killers.

Finally, while Game of Thrones has been on this top 10 list for weeks, it fell off this week. Just House of the Dragon holding the standard now.
