The season finale of House of the Dragon aired last night, and you may be upset that you have to wait over a year before you can see more. But even though we won’t catch up with Rhaenyra, Aemond and the rest until probably 2024, we can at least watch the actors break down what their characters were going through in “The Black Queen.”

Showrunners Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal break down the biggest moment from the season finale in HBO’s latest “Inside the Episode” feature, alongside actors like Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra) and Ewan Mitchell (Aemond). They hit several big moments, including Rhaenyra’s coronation on Dragonstone, her brutal birth scene, and of course, the battle at Storm’s End that ends the episode.

Watch below!

Aemond Targaryen must decide if he will “own” what he did at Storm’s End

That final sequence, where Aemond’s dragon Vhagar goes rogue and chomps Lucerys and his dragon Arrax to bits, is the most dramatic of the episode. Where does Aemond, who’s now a kinslayer whether he wants to be or not, go from here? “Now he’s done it, and he has to decide whether or not he’s gonna own it,” says Ryan Condal.

And then there’s how it’s going to affect Rhaenyra. Throughout “The Black Queen,” she’s resisting the calls of her advisors (and of her husband) to go to war, but after one of the greens has killed her son, all bets may be off.

“Once you’ve lost both your parents and you’ve lost a lover, may be you think you know grief,” D’Arcy says of Rhaenyra’s emotional journey. “And then I think what’s so awful is that losing Luke tells us that she knows nothing about grief and completely changes her outlook on the world going forward.”

We’ll have to wait until 2024 to see what Rhaenyra does next.

dark. Next. House of the Dragon delivers a solid finale that pulls one too many punches
