Maisie Williams rewatched Game of Thrones, says it “fell off” at the end
By Ashley Hurst
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that Game of Thrones was a very popular show and that the ending didn’t go over well with a big chunk of the fandom. To call it divisive would be an understatement. Several cast members have weighed in with their opinions on the final season since. The most recent to give their verdict is Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), who agrees that the show tailed off towards the end.
Williams recently joined her brother Talfuin on his Twitch channel where they discussed various topics, including Williams’ time on Game of Thrones. She was there from the beginning to the end, which is quite a feat. “It feels good to be proud of it, that was 10 years of my life,” she said.
With the journey now firmly behind her, Williams recently went back and watched the entire show. “[F]or the longest time…I was so like… I could never see it.” Now that she’s watched it as a fan, she weighed on the good, the bad, and the ugly. She now shares the same opinion on the eighth and final season as that chunk of the fandom we mentioned earlier. “I rewatched it all recently. It definitely fell off at the end, but it started really strong. I was heartbroken when Ned died and I knew it was coming. For the first time I could really feel the story.”
Game of Thrones may be over, but the franchise is still very much alive. Ten episodes of the prequel series, House of the Dragon, are now streaming on HBO. And now we wait for season 2.
Maisie Williams was “disappointed” in Spider-Man: No Way Home
Not only was Williams critical of a project that she herself was involved in, but she also threw some shade towards Spider-Man: No Way Home. While she “loves” the MCU’s first two Spider-Man movies — Homecoming and Far From Home — she found the latest installment a little self-indulgent.
No Way Home marked Tom Holland’s third solo move as the web slinger, and it also featured the return of two classic Spider-Men: Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, not to mention the return of several classic villains. It was nostalgia overload for Williams:
"They had Benedict Cumberbatch come in and play Doctor Strange, and then they had the three Spider-Men together and I feel like they were just so excited to get them all on screen together that it just missed a little bit of the soul."
Williams ultimately named the movie the “biggest film disappointment of the year.” Do you agree? Or where you entranced by the nostalgic, multiversal mayhem?
