Moon KnightMs. MarvelShe-Hulk…there have been plenty of Marvel shows coming out on Disney+ this past year, and while they’ve been fun, nothing has quite moved the needle like the biggest Marvel movies of the past decade and change. There will be plenty of Marvel shows coming out in 2023, as well. Will any of them be giant crossover hits that get people buzzing like the old days?

For my money, the one that has the best chance is Secret Invasion, a glossy-looking conspiracy thriller with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the lead role. Everything looks more serious and intense than the other Marvel shows we’ve gotten of late. Take a look at the trailer:

The high-profile cameos help, too; you’ve got Don Cheadle as James Rhodes, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, and more. There are some new characters as well, including ones played by Oscar winner Olivia Colman and Game of Thrones veteran Emilia Clarke. We don’t know who either of those actors is playing, but the truth may have been revealed.

Emilia Clarke plays [SPOILER] in Marvel’s Secret Invasion

So recently, a series of seemingly official GIFs from the trailer showed up on the Tenor GIF database. One of them is of Nick Fury saying, “Yeah, well.” The GIF is appropriately tagged with “#Nick-Fury” and “#Yeah-Well.” Sounds simple enough, right?

There’s also a GIF of Emilia Clarke saying “It’s the beginning.” That one is tagged with “#Its-The-Beginning” and “#Abigail-Brand.” You see where we’re going with this?

In Marvel Comics, Abigail Brand is the leader of S.W.O.R.D., which is a secret organization that monitors potential alien threats to the planet Earth. It’s the counterpart to S.H.I.E.L.D., the secret organization that Nick Fury runs. Given that aliens are invading (secretly) in Secret Invasion, bringing in S.W.O.R.D. and its leader seems like an obvious move.

In the comics, Abigail Brand is part alien herself, as well as part mutant. We’ll see how far Secret Invasion wants to blow up the mythology of the MCU when it coming to Disney+ sometimes in 2023.

dark. Next. First impressions: Black Panther 2 is “fantastic,” “poignant” and “heartbreaking”
