Henry Cavill: There’s “a bright future ahead” for his Superman
After a five-year hiatus from playing the Man of Steel, Henry Cavill returned as Superman during the end credits scene of Black Adam. And that’s just the start; expect to see him back in the red-and-blue bodysuit in more movies.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Cavill discussed his excitement about playing one of the most iconic superheroes ever…again. “The character means so much to me. It’s been five years now. I never gave up hope. It’s amazing to be here now talking about it again,” he said. “There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”
Cavill said that the Black Adam cameo is just a taste of things to come. It is yet unclear if a new solo superman movie is in development. With James Gunn the new head of the discombobulated DC Cinematic Universe, we will have to wait and see where Cavill’s Superman goes from here.
Wearing the Superman suit again was “one of the top moments” in Henry Cavill’s career
Cavill did comment on how it felt to don the suit again, however:
"I went to Warner Bros’ studio in the UK and got back in the suit. It was a very powerful moment for me. I wasn’t sure how I would feel… whether it would be something very emotionally connective because I put the ‘Man of Steel’ suit back on. I chose that one in particular because of the nostalgia attached to the suit. It was important for me to be standing there and enjoying that moment. That is one of the top moments in my career. It feels great to have the opportunity to wear it again."
In the five years since Justice League came out, Cavill has been delivering a fan-favorite performance as Geralt of Rivia on The Witcher TV show. Cavill has developed a reputation in the online community for his faithful portrayal in the Witcher, as well as his respect for gaming and nerd culture. This has lead to him being the subject of endless fan-casting in things like House of the Dragon and James Bond.
Of course, Cavill recently announced that he’s leaving The Witcher. We don’t know exactly why, but it seems reasonable to assume that his pivot back into movies has something to do with it.
