Ever since her character appeared to perish in Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness, fans have been eagerly awaiting news of what could be next for Elizabeth Olsen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Rumors swirled that a solo project could be announced at D23 or San Diego Comic-Con, but both events came and went without any reference to a standalone project, or even a mention of Olsen’s character.

In the months that have followed, there have been multiple reports regarding Olsen’s involvement in upcoming projects; however, a new rumor suggests Olsen is about to take a step back from the MCU.

Is Elizabeth Olsen taking a break from Marvel movies and shows?

Marvel is notorious for not releasing information about the casting or contract status of its stars, but a new rumor seems to hint that Elizabeth Olsen has decided to take a step back from the MCU after seven years with the franchise.

According to a blind item posted by celebrity gossip insider DeuxMoi, Olsen is reported to have decided to take a step back from Marvel in order to focus on new indie projects. No details regarding the length of the break were included.

Marvel has not directly confirmed Olsen’s return in any upcoming projects nor was it teased in Multiverse of Madness that her character would return. Still, it’s hard to discount the many reports circulating that Olsen will be returning for projects such as Agatha: Coven of Chaos or the recently announced Vision spinoff in development at Disney+.

Although it’s possible Olsen could follow in the footstep of some of Marvel’s biggest stars to walk away from the franchise, all signs point toward her return to the MCU at some point.

Will Elizabeth Olsen play the Scarlet Witch again in the MCU?

At this time there are conflicting reports regarding Olsen’s future with Marvel Studios, but we do know Olsen will play the Scarlet Witch at least one more time before taking any break from the MCU.

During Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, it was confirmed Olsen will reprise the role of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the upcoming second season of Marvel’s animated series What If…?.

What remains unclear is when we could see Olsen next appear in a live-action project. Olsen seemed to shoot down rumors of an appearance in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, so it’s possible she is indeed taking a break from the role at this time.

Still, given the character’s popularity, we can’t imagine Olsen has played Wanda for the last time or that Marvel won’t try to lure her back for additional projects in the future!
