Ryan Reynolds is “not responsible” for Hugh Jackman being in Deadpool 3
By Ariba Bhuvad
Ryan Reynolds made every Marvel/X-Men fan’s dream come true when he dropped a surprise announcement regarding Hugh Jackman: the actor will be back as Wolverine in Deadpool 3.
But how did he accomplish this impossible feat? After all, we thought we’d seen the last of Jackman’s Wolverine after 2017’s Logan. Reynolds broke it all down with Collider.
Beware SPOILERS for Logan below.
Ryan Reynolds doesn’t want too much credit for getting Hugh Jackman to return as Wolverine
Wolverine dies in Logan, so you’d be forgiven for wondering how he could possibly come back. Reynolds and Jackman explain it in the announcement video, but it’s all bleeped out. With the existence of the Marvel multiverse, there are plenty of ways it could happen, but honestly, I don’t need it to make sense. I’m just happy Hugh Jackman is back!
“I don’t believe that I’m responsible for Hugh coming back,” Reynolds said. “I always wanted Hugh to come back. My first meeting with Kevin Feige when Disney bought Fox years ago, maybe three years ago, or three and a half, four years ago, I’m not sure, was about doing a movie with the two of us, a Deadpool Wolverine movie.”
"And that was not possible at the time. And then Hugh just happened to call at that perfect moment and express that he’d be interested in coming back and doing this one more time. And the contents of that conversation, I’ll let Hugh, because I know it’s only inevitable that you and Hugh are going to speak at some point soon, I’m sure. I’ll let Hugh answer that on his own. But he expressed interest in coming back, and then it was my job to take that to Kevin Feige one more time and sell it."
However it came together, working with Jackman is a “dream come true” for Reynolds. “But working with Logan and having Logan and Wade together in a movie is beyond any dream I would ever be audacious enough to have. So I’m really, really super f***ing excited to do this film.”
Deadpool 3, which is directed by Shawn Levy, is aiming to release in theaters on November 8, 2024. That day cannot get here soon enough!
