The CW will have “minimal” carry over with its current shows

The CW has undergone major changes over the last year, including the massive overhaul of its DCTV shows. But there are still some shows that have managed to stick around, including Superman & Lois, Kung Fu, All American, and Walker.

Will these shows continue to stick around? Or is their end as inevitable as the shows canceled before them? Most recently, Stargirl got the ax and will be airing its final episode in December, so what else will follow its cancellation?

Variety reported that the CW’s quarterly earnings call this week had much to report about the future of its remaining shows — and whether or not they will go beyond this current season.

Will the CW keep its remaining shows?

The CW’s new owner, Nexstar Media Group, hinted during the call that there would likely be more cutbacks to the television shows. “Over the course of the next year, we’re really working to develop our slate, which will then come online in the 2023-2024 broadcast season,” said Lee Ann Gliha, Executive VP and CFO. “We will have some carryover commitment for the CBS and the WBD programming in that year, but it’s minimal at that point.”

Minimal, huh? Unless the remaining shows dazzle the new owners, they are likely to be booted out the door. And they would be joining the likes of Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and Charmed, amongst many others. By next year, there may be no remnants left of the CW we’ve all grown to know and love.

If any show is going to survive all the major cuts, it will likely be Superman & Lois, which has brought in a lot of viewers. Of course, it will be contingent on the success of season 3, so stay tuned for how that turns out.

It looks like the era of the CW may finally be coming to an end.
