The first season of House of the Dragon, HBO’s follow-up to Game of Thrones, is in the can. How many episodes were there, what were the titles, and what were they about? Check out our episode guide below:
- Episode 1: “The Heirs of the Dragon”: Queen Aemma Arryn dies and King Viserys Targaryen must choose a heir.
- Episode 2: “The Rogue Prince”: Rhaenyra Targaryen adjusts her position as her father’s heir while her uncle Daemon stirs trouble on Dragonstone.
- Episode 3: “Second of His Name”: Years later, Rhaenyra’s best friend Alicent Hightower has married her father and gives birth to a son, which throws Rhaenyra’s succession into doubt. Meanwhile, Daemon makes war in the Stepstones.
- Episode 4: “King of the Narrow Sea”: Daemon returns to King’s Landing and gets reacquainted with his family.
- Episode 5: “We Light the Way”: Rhaenyra marries Laenor Velaryon, but the wedding feast is fraught with tension.
- Episode 6: The Princess and the Queen”: Ten years later, Alicent and Rhaenyra are at loggerheads in King’s Landing.
- Episode 7: “Driftmark”: The tension between Alicent and Rhaenyra explodes during the funeral for Daemon’s wife Laena Velaryon.
- Episode 8: “The Lord of the Tides”: Six years later, the two rival branches of the Targaryen family try once last time to make peace.
- Episode 9: “The Green Council”: Alicent and the greens plan to crown Aegon in the wake of King Viserys’ death.
- Episode 10: “The Black Queen”: Rhaenyra finds out about Aegon’s coronation and makes plans of her own.
We probably won’t see new episodes until 2024.
House of the Dragon Episode Guide
Game of Thrones had 10 episodes per season for its first six seasons. The seventh season had seven episodes and the eighth season had six. There were some who feared that the first season of House of the Dragon wouldn’t come with a full suite of 10 episodes. It’s nice to see that those fears were unfounded.
HBO is working on a new suite of episodes as we speak. We’re not 100% sure how many there will be, but 10 is a good bet.
