The other week, fans were stunned to hear that Henry Cavill will be leaving Netflix’s The Witcher show, where he plays the lead role of Geralt of Rivia. He’ll still be in the upcoming third season, which does not have a release date yet, but starting in season 4, the role will be played by Liam Hemsworth, best known as Gale Hawthorne from The Hunger Games movies.

Why exactly Cavill would leave a role he fought very hard to get is a matter of debate, but that’s what’s happening. It will be very strange to watch season 4 come 2025 or whenever and see an entirely new face in this key role (although if the producers are smart they could work the change into the story.)

And what will it look like when Hemsworth takes over? Digital artist 83pixelstudios mocked up what we could be in for. Take a look:

Liam Hemsworth was a frontrunner to play Geralt on The Witcher back in 2018

Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt is looking pretty good, at least in fan art form! Maybe this will work out.

And it’s not like Hemsworth’s casting is coming out of nowhere. According to reliable Witcher fansite Redanian Intelligence, Hemsworth auditioned to play the Butcher of Blaviken back in 2018, when Netflix was casting the part. Not only that, but he was a frontrunner, only narrowly missing out on the part to Cavill.

That could help explain how Netflix already had Hemsworth ready to go when it announced that Cavill was leaving; it didn’t have to hold auditions to recast the part, but only call up the guy who almost got it the last time and ask if he was still available.
