The Witcher and 2 other fantasy shows returning in 2023

Between House of the DragonThe Rings of Power and the final season of His Dark Materials, 2022 was a banner year for fantasy TV, but 2023 won’t be slacking off. There’s plenty of good stuff coming down the pike next year.

One of the hottest titles on the way is The Witcher, which will drop its third season on Netflix sometime in the summer of 2023. We know that from a poster that Netflix dropped during its TUDUM event.

A new season of The Witcher would be exciting regardless of the circumstances, but the third season is especially interesting because it will be the last one where Henry Cavill plays the titular character Geralt of Rivia. For the fourth season, which has already been confirmed, Cavill will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth.

Is The Wheel of Time coming back for a second season?

Another big fantasy show on its way back is The Wheel of Time, Amazon’s adaptation of Robert Jordan’s doorstop of a fantasy series. The first season was a hit for the network, but the production was hampered by pandemic-era difficulties. Hopefully things went more smoothly on the second season.

We don’t know exactly when The Wheel of Time season 2 will be coming out, but we know that filming on it wrapped in May of 2022, meaning that the team is now deep into post-production. We’ve even seen footage:

Although we won’t see The Wheel of Time season 2 in 2022, we could see it early on in 2023.

Carnival Row will get a final season in 2023

One last fantasy show returning in 2023 is Carnival Row, Amazon’s steampunk series starring Orlando Bloom as a detective and Cara Delevingne as a fairy. The show is a period drama where fantasy creatures live together with humans. It’s pretty high concept, which could be why it didn’t catch on in a huge way.

Carnival Row season 2 premieres on Amazon Prime Video on February 17. It will be the final season of the show.
