The first season of Interview With The Vampire is over, and against all odds, it was really good! The story has been around for decades and I wasn’t sure there was a way to make it feel fresh, but AMC pulled it off. Kudos all around.
So what’s next our vampire family of Louis, Lestat and Claudia? The season finale ends by suggesting that Louis hasn’t been forthright with Daniel Molloy, who’s conducting the interview with this vampire. Still, we can make some guesses. Although Louis has built himself a nice setup in Dubai, neither Lestat nor Claudia are anywhere to be seen. Did they die? Are they elsewhere?
Anne Rice’s original novel has been out since 1976, so we know, more or less, what happens. Beware SPOILERS ahead!
How did Claudia die in Interview With The Vampire?
In the book, after leaving Lestat for dead in New Orleans, Louis and Claudia travel the world, looking for other vampires. Their search takes them to Paris, where they meet the vampire Armand, who presides over a coven of other vampires.
It’s here where Claudia runs into trouble. By turning her into a vampire at such a young age, Lestat broke the rules of vampire society; they are not supposed to turn anyone that young. Moreover, Claudia broke the rules when she killed (or tried to, anyway) Lestat. The coven finds these thing out, and executes Claudia by leaving her to be exposed to sunlight.
Might these things happen in Interview With The Vampire season 2? Perhaps. But also remember: Louis is an unreliable narrator, and it’s possible the show has a few twists up its sleeve.
