There will be no more loops for the android hosts of Westworld. News broke earlier this month that HBO decided not to renew the series for a fifth and final season. We’ve heard very little about how those involved in making the series reacted.

However, Luke Hemsworth recently opened up to ET Online about how shocked he was to hear the news. Hemsworth played Ashley Stubbs on all four seasons of Westworld, gradually shifting from a supporting role as one of the Westworld park’s security officers to a major player in the overall story. It was revealed in season 3 that Stubbs was a host, which took his character in a new direction.

Luke Hemsworth found out Westworld was cancelled on his birthday

“You hope these things go forever, but everyone’s got their own reasons,” Hemsworth said. “I’m very thankful for my part in that series and that journey was a big part of my life, but yeah it was disappointing.”

Adding insult to injury, Hemsworth got the news that Westworld would be cancelled on his 42nd birthday. “I was like, ‘F**k! Dammit!'” the actor recalled.

Hemsworth’s birthday is November 5; The Hollywood Reporter broke the news about HBO deciding to cancel the series on the 4th. This means that Hemsworth more or less found out along with the rest of us.

Despite any disappointment, it sounds like Hemsworth is maintaining a positive attitude. “I think the idea right from the start was to go full circle and come back to be about loops, to be about human beings and robots being stuck in that trajectory,” he said. “Unfortunately, we get cut off, but it’s the nature of the world. You can’t get depressed about it. You move on and it opens up new doors.”

Luke and Liam Hemsworth will appear on Limitless to troll brother Chris

You can’t keep a Hemsworth down though, and it’s likely we’ll see Luke again in the near future. His younger brother Chris is currently headlining the Disney+ Limitless. That show is a docuseries where the Thor actor travels the world undertaking crazy challenges to better understand the limits of the human body. Luke and other Hemsworth brother Liam will appear to cheer on Chris…or trip him up.

“We were not there to help. We’re brothers. You gotta fight a little to succeed, so we never ever let him know that he’s succeeding, which makes him push a little bit harder,” Luke joked, before adding that he was “so proud” of his younger brother. “Everything in that episode is like, ‘Wow, he really is that specimen of a human.'”

Limitless with Chris Hemsworth premieres November 16 on Disney+. All four seasons of Westworld are now streaming on HBO Max.
