The first season of Shadow and Bone, an adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s fantasy series, was a hit on Netflix. The streamer renewed it just a couple months afterward, and filming on season 2 wrapped in June of this year.
Unfortunately, that’s not long enough for Netflix to complete post-production on eight new episodes. Shadow and Bone, like a lot of modern-day fantasy and sci-fi series, is expensive and complicated, meaning we won’t get to watch the new stuff for a while.
According to a sneak peak released by Netflix, Shadow and Bone season 2 will come out sometime in 2023. We don’t know exactly when. That will probably depend less on when it’s ready and more on when Netflix thinks is the best time to drop the new episodes.
When is Shadow and Bone season 2 coming out?
As for what will happen in the new season, it’s due to follow the book Siege and Storm. A lot of our favorites will be returning, including Jessie Mei Li as Alina and Ben Barnes as the Darkling, but there will be several new characters, too, including:
- Patrick Gibson as Nikolai Lantsov, a prince who become a pirate, although he prefers the word privateer.
- Anna Leong Brophy as Tamar Kir-Bataar and Lewis Tan as Tolya Yul-Bataar, a pair of mercenaries who work for Nikolai.
- Jack Wolfe as Wylan Hendriks, the son of a wealthy merchant who joins the Crows as a chemist and demolitions expert.
See you in 2023.
