Does Daemon Targaryen die on House of the Dragon?
By WiC Staff
Daemon Targaryen has quickly become one of the most popular characters on House of the Dragon. Violent, lascivious, unpredictable…what’s not to love?
The first season of the show is now over. But if you’re curious about what becomes of Daemon, you need only crack open the pages of George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, the book that House of the Dragon is based on. That book lays out all the main events of the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, including what befalls Daemon.

What happens to Daemon Targaryen on House of the Dragon?
Of all the characters we’ve met so far on House of the Dragon, Daemon has one of the more spectacular fates, which makes perfect sense for a guy as dramatic as him.
Later in the story, Aemond Targaryen will hop on Vhagar and burn the Riverlands, exacting a reign of terror on houses that support Rhaenyra. Daemon makes it his mission to stop him. Eventually, the two meet at Harrenhal, Aemond on Vhagar and Daemon on Caraxes. They have a dragon-vs-dragon battle over the Gods Eye, the largest lake in the Seven Kingdoms. At the end of the battle, Daemon leaps off of Caraxes, lands on Vhagar, and runs Aemond through in the eye, killing him.
Both dragons crash into the lake. Neither survive. Aemond’s body is also later found. However, Daemon’s body is never located. This means that, when the time comes to depict this event on House of the Dragon, the writers could choose to either have Daemon die in this clash, or somehow get away.
But we probably won’t see what choice they make for a long while. The second season of House of the Dragon has yet to start filming and problem won’t come out until 2024. And if I had to guess, we won’t see the Aemond-vs-Daemon battle until at least season 3.
