The moment we have all been waiting for is finally here, Indy fans! We have our first look at Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones 5, and it’s just as magnificent as imagined.

Thanks to an exclusive in-depth look by Empire at the upcoming movie, fans finally can get a glimpse of what to expect when the next installment hits theaters next June. Harrison Ford looks amazing as he settles back into one of the most famous roles of his lifetime.

After nearly 40 years since the first film was released, Ford is back as the famous archaeology professor and adventurer who jet-sets around the world with a whip and a will. And director James Mangold told Empire all about what to expect!

Harrison Ford is back as Indiana Jones!

According to Empire, the new movie “finds Indy in 1960s-era New York City, bathed in golden light, whip in hand.” As for why Indy is there, we don’t yet know.

Mangold gave fans some insight into how he brought this story to life, and the challenges presented by having an 80-year-old star. “It became really important to me to figure out how to make this a movie about a hero at sunset. The issues I brought up about Indy’s age were not things I thought were being addressed in the material being developed at the time,” the director said. “There were ‘old’ jokes, but the material itself wasn’t about it. To me, whatever your greatest liability, you should fly straight towards that. If you try to pretend it’s not there, you end up getting slings and arrows the whole way.”

Checking out the shot above, I think age is the last thing on my mind. What I see is the only man capable of playing this character the way they need to be played. No one else, not even Shia LaBeouf (no offense) could ever step into this role.

A long list of acclaimed actors join Ford for the fifth installment, including Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Hannibal’s Mads Mikkelsen, and Antonio Banderas. I’m pumped to see this cast come together! I hope Mikkelsen plays a villain; we know he’s good at it.

Indiana Jones 5 arrives in theaters on June 30, 2023.
