David Harbour wants to “pour his soul” into final season of Stranger Things
By Dan Selcke
The fourth season of Stranger Things was unquestionably one of the TV highlights of 2022, coming back after three years away to inspire Halloween costumes, make Kate Bush popular again, and in general just blow everybody away.
The show has one more season to go, and David Harbour — who has played gruff-but-good-hearted local cop Jim Hopper since the beginning — sounds rearing to get to it. “It will be my goodbye to Jim Hopper, which is a big deal,” he told Collider. “Fortunately, I feel like I have a long time to say goodbye because I think we’re going to take a long time shooting these episodes.”
Harbour has called Jim Hopper “the role of a lifetime in many ways,” and it’s easy to see what he means. Before he was cast on Stranger Things, he was a working actor but not a celebrity. Playing Hopper brought him a new level of notoriety, so it makes sense that Harbour would want to do right by him in this final stretch. “I’m going to pour my soul into it as hard as I can,” he said.
Stranger Things season 5 may not be as long as season 4, but i will be “packed to the brim with good stuff that you love”
Of course, it’s easier to pour your soul into a project when you trust the directors to not abuse your passion. “I know those Duffer brothers are very specific, and I know they want to get that last season,” Harbour said of showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer. “I mean if you look at Season 4, I have a feeling that Season 5 may not be as long, but it certainly will be packed to the brim with good stuff that you love. I mean, they really are getting better at giving you that home run that the audiences love. And I think that Season 5 will do that so much.”
We’ll probably be waiting a while to see the fifth and final season of Stranger Things; until 2024, at least. Meanwhile, you can see him kicking as Santa Claus when his alternative holiday movie Violent Night opens on December 2.
