After more than a decade, the sequel to James Cameron’s Avatar is nearly upon us. It’s strange to even write those words; for years fans speculated whether we’d ever see this movie at all. But it’s real, and it’s happening, and next month we’ll all be back on Pandora!

The new trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water below gives us our best idea yet about what to expect. Check it out:

Avatar: The Way of Water trailer takes us beneath the waves of Pandora

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, but man does this movie look gorgeous. Like previous trailers, this one keeps many of the actual plot details under wraps. Instead, it focuses on the beauty of the environment and the creatures to entice audiences to pre-order those tickets.

But we do get a bit more of an idea about what exactly is going on with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and their family. It seems they’ll be leaving their home in the forests of Pandora in order to seek refuge with one of the alien moon’s oceanic tribes. However, just because they seek shelter there doesn’t mean they’ll be easily accepted; Jake and Neytiri’s children will have to pass trials and better understand the way of water that defines this particular group of Na’vi, much like their father needed to learn the ways of Neytiri’s people in the original film.

With just over a month to go until Avatar: The Way of Water hits theaters, this is likely the final pre-release trailer for the movie. Which is just fine; we’ll be gaping at those incredible underwater scenes right up until the release date.

Avatar: The Way of Water premieres on December 16.
