Saturday Night Live built that terrific House of the Dragon set in two days

Did you see the House of the Dragon sketch on Saturday Night Live? It looked WAY more accurate than it had any right to. Here’s how it came together:

A couple of weekends ago, Saturday Night Live parodied House of the Dragon. The sketch was mostly an excuse to get host Dave Chappelle to reprise some of his characters from Chappelle’s Show back in the day, but there were plenty of HOTD-specific jokes in there, too; clearly, the writers at SNL are fans.

Also, the sketch looked way better and more accurate than I thought an SNL parody of House of the Dragon would look. I mean, they had everything! The Dragonstone set looked great, the Painted Table looked accurate, the costumes were terrific, the hair was on point…they even made over cast member James Austin Johnson to look like the decrepit version of Viserys Targaryen who appeared in House of the Dragon Episode 8, “The Lord of the Tides.”

It was just really impressive stuff. And the SNL team apparently thought so, too, because they made a little behind-the-scenes video to show off all the work they put into it. Take a look below:

So now only did the Saturday Night Live crew put together a parody of House of the Dragon that looked dead-accurate, but they did it in basically 24 hours! They take comedy seriously over there.

You can stream House of the Dragon now on HBO Max. Meanwhile, back episodes of Saturday Night Live are available to stream on Peacock.
