The Witcher is Netflix’s hallmark fantasy series, filled with swords and action and monsters galore. Season 2 followed Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) as he tried to keep his foster daughter Ciri (Freya Allan) from the clutches of those who would murder her for her special powers or otherwise use her for political gain. It ended with a few huge cliffhangers after Geralt’s on-again-off-again love interest Yennefer (Anya Charlotra) helped the duo fight off a supernatural threat at the witchers’ castle of Kaer Morhen.

We’ve been waiting for what feels like an eternity for more. When will we see The Witcher season 3? Let’s go over the latest dispatches from the Continent.

When is The Witcher season 3 release date?

While The Witcher season 3 won’t be coming out this month, we finally know when to expect it. At its annual Tudum event this past September, Netflix confirmed that The Witcher season 3 will be premiering during the summer of 2023.

Unfortunately, not all the news is so easily digestible. We’ve also learned that this will be the final season to feature Henry Cavill as Geralt; starting in season 4, the titular witcher will be played by Liam Hemsworth. No concrete information has surfaced about why this change was made, though there’s plenty of speculation.

All that said, we’ll be going back to the Continent much sooner than that. While The Witcher season 3 won’t release until Summer 2023, the show’s first live-action spinoff, The Witcher: Blood Origin, will hit Netflix on December 25. Blood Origin is a four-episode limited series that tells the story of the Conjunction of the Spheres, a celestial event that took place some 1,200 years before the events of The Witcher proper.

So while we may have to wait a few more months until we’re back on the path with Geralt, don’t hang up that silver sword quite yet.

Next. Another Witcher spinoff is reportedly in development at Netflix. dark
