Between Emily Watson, Travis Fimmel, Indira Varma and now Mark Strong, HBO Max is going pretty hard on this Dune prequel show.

HBO Max continues to put together the cast of Dune: The Sisterhood, a prequel series set some 10,000 years before the story currently playing out in theaters. Based on the novel novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, the show is about a pair of Harkonnen sisters (played by Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson) who begin the mysterious Bene Gesserit order. Other cast members include Travis Fimmel and Indira Varma. There’s some serious talent here!

And the good times continue to roll. Variety reports that Mark Strong, known for his roles in movies like 1917 as well as the Kingsman franchise, will join the series as Emperor Javicco Corrino, “a man from a great line of war-time Emperors, who is called upon to govern the Imperium and manage a fragile peace.” Essentially he’s the ruler of the universe. Christopher Walken will play his distant descendent, Shaddam Corrino IV, in the upcoming movie Dune: Part Two. That’s a legacy you can be proud of.

There are other newcomers. Jade Anouka, lately of His Dark Materials, will play Sister Theodosia, “a talented and ambitious acolyte at the Sisterhood who harbors a dangerous secret about her past.” Finally, Chris Mason will play Keiran Atreides, “a Swordmaster to a Great House whose ambition to live up to his family name is disrupted when he forms an unexpected connection to a member of the royal family.”

There’s no word on when Dune: The Sisterhood will debut, but the next Dune movie is due out in theaters in November of 2023. It should be after that. Will that movie be popular enough to inspire interest in a spinoff show? Can Warner Bros. Discovery turn Dune into a proper franchise? Stay tuned.
