HBO is here with the next great zombie apocalypse story. Watch the trailer for The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
The Walking Dead just ended after 11 seasons on the air. But lo, a new show about a zombie apocalypse approaches. HBO just debuted the trailer for The Last of Us, its adaptation of Naughty Dog’s video game series of the same name. Watch below:
The Last of Us has some big-name talent attached to it. Craig Mazin, the guy behind HBO’s Chernobyl, is serving as showrunner alongside Neil Druckmann, who wrote the games.
Then there are the stars. The show is led by Game of Thrones veterans Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. They play Joel and Ellie, a hardened survivor and a girl who can resist the fungus that has turned billions of people into walking monstrosities respectively. It’s Joel’s job to escort Ellie across a zombie-ridden United States in the hopes of getting her to a lab where scientists can use her immunity to develop a cure. Their relationship forms the emotional backbone of the series.
The Last of Us games often feel like movies already, so this could be a great fit for the story, especially HBO’s massive investment and signature coat of polish. The show premieres on January 15.
