Wednesday tells the story of Wednesday Addams, the daughter of ooky-spooky icons Morticia and Gomez Addams. These characters have been played by many people over the decades, but in the new Netflix show, they’re played by Jenna Ortega, Caterine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán respectively.

The show has been a huge hit. We’re talking #1 in 83 countries, with 341.2 million hours watched in its first week of availability. Those are record-breaking numbers, so the show has a bright future if it wants it.

And yet we haven’t heard about Netflix renewing Wednesday for season 2 yet. Is there cause for concern? Probably not.

Is Wednesday returning to Netflix for season 2?

Speaking to Variety, co-creator Miles Millar said that he and his team always aim for “multiple seasons, ideally” when creating a new show. “That’s never expected, but that’s the anticipation that hopefully the show is successful.”

"So you always lay out at least three or four seasons’ worth of potential storylines for the characters. It can evolve and change. Often, you want to see which characters or cast pop and who you like to write for. So you want to keep it open and organic enough to change it and evolve, but we certainly have a pretty clear runway of what we want to do in future seasons."

It goes without saying that Wednesday was successful, so Millar needn’t worry on that score. And given that they already have plans for what will happen in season 2 — the end of season 1 provided a few loose ends that could be tied up — it’s not just a matter of waiting for the official announcement.
