Watch the first trailer for The Boys college-aged spinoff Gen V

The Boys made a name for itself as the sickest, most extreme superhero show on TV. The spinoff Gen V looks very much in that mold. Amazon released a trailer for the new show over the weekend. Take a look:

Gen V is about students at Godolkin University, a university set up by the malevolent Vought Corporation to train young superheroes. That sounds kinda wholesome — it might even conjure up images of Professor Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters from X-Men — but The Boys has a much grimmer vibe. As we know from the mainline show, most superheroes in this world are amoral at best and violent psychopaths at worst. And Godolkin University is where they cut their teeth, probably literally; there’s gotta be a Tooth Man or something at some point, right?

Gen V stars Patrick Schwarzenegger (son of Arnold), Jason Ritter (son of John), Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Sean Patrick Thomas, Marco Pigossi, Clancy Brown, and Alexander Calvert. Also expect some cameos from the cast of The Boys proper.

Antony Starr praises Metro Boomin for sampling The Boys in new song

In other The Boys news, producer Metro Boomin used a sample from the show in his song “On Time,” from his new album Heroes and Villains. Specifically, we hear a speech Homelander gives to a crowd in the second episode of season 3, “The Only Man in the Sky”:

"I am done apologizing! I am done being persecuted for my strength!” he exclaims. “You people should be thanking Christ that I am who and what I am because you need me. You need me to save you."

Good and unhinged. That’s our Homelander. Listen to the song below; the Homelander sample comes towards the end:

Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, shouted out the sample on his Instagram. “Cool to support a great artist,” he wrote.

As for when we’ll see more of The Boys, expect Gen V sometime early next year and The Boys season 4 later on.
