William Gibson’s novel Neuromancer is credited with inventing the cyberpunk genre. Now, Miles Teller being considered for the lead in a new show!

It seems we’ve hardly wrapped on The Peripheral, Prime Video’s new science fiction show based on the novel by William Gibson, but already there’s other good news afoot for fans of the author. The Illuminerdi reports that Apple TV+ is developing a series based on Gibson’s seminal cyberpunk novel Neuromancer.

Neuromancer follows Henry Dorsett Case, a down-on-his-luck hacker living in a futuristic Japan who is hired for one last job that brings him into contact with an advanced AI. Apparently Apple TV+ even knows who it wants to play the role: The Illuminerdi reports that the studio has already offered the part to Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick, Fantastic Four). The show is currently looking to cast its other lead, the “razorgirl” mercenary Molly Millions, as well as Case’s love interest Linda Lee. Graham Roland (Lost, Jack Ryan) is set to serve as writer, producer, and showrunner, with J.D. Dillard (Devotion) reportedly signed on to direct at least one episode.

Apple TV+ has carved out a solid niche for itself by aiming for quality over quantity. Both Severance and For All Mankind were solid science fiction shows, the feel-good comedy series Ted Lasso has won multiple Emmys, and Coda was the first Best Picture Oscar winner from a streaming service original movie.

Adding Neuromancer to their stable of high-quality shows sounds like a really smart move for the service. Should season 1 go well, there are two more books to draw from in Gibson’s Sprawl trilogy after Neuromancer. Here’s hoping Apple TV+ knocks this one out of the park.
