2022 is almost over, and it’s been a pretty eventful year for film. 2023 is around the corner and will give us a whole new crop of blockbusters, including Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

The Transformers movie franchise has had its ups and downs since it debuted back in 2007, but seems to be on the upswing lately. Rise of the Beasts is based loosely on the Beast Wars: Transformers TV show from the 1990s. That show was set in the future and chronicled the battle between the Maximals and the Predacons, who are the descendants of the Autobots and the Decepticons respectively. (If you’re flummoxed by this press of nonsense words, these are the names of the factions of good robots and bad robots.) However, the Rise of the Beasts movie will be set in the past, but the Maximals are still there. However, according to Collider, the bad guys will be not the Predacons but rather the Terrorcons, who in Transformers lore are a team of especially malevolent Decepticons.

I’ll admit: I was not prepared for the depth of Transformers lore when I started writing this post. Here’s the trailer to make it simple:

Peter Dinklage plays a villain in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

In any case, the cast of Rise of the Beasts is pretty big. It includes Pete Davidson, Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Michelle Yeoh, Peter Cullen (returning as the voice of Optimus Prime) and Ron Perlman (who voices the leader of the Maximals). New cast members include Liza Koshy (Arcee), John DiMaggio (Stratosphere), David Sobolov (Rhinox/Battletrap), Michaela Jaé Rodriguez (Nightbird), Cristo Fernández (Wheeljack), Tobe Nwigwe (Reek) and Game of Thrones veteran Peter Dinklage as the voice of the villainous Scourge.

Apparently, Scourge is the name of several characters from throughout the Transformers franchise, which again, is way more complicated than you might think. In one branch of the lore he’s the leader of the Terrorcons. In another he serves the villain Galvatron. In another he’s a Predacon. But with a name like Scourge, you know he’s a bad guy no matter what version you’re getting.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hits theaters on June 9, 2023.

Next. The first Game of Thrones Official Fan Convention is coming. dark
