Here’s an interesting question: does God exist in The Walking Dead universe? You may or may not be wondering that, but it’s a question that creator Robert Kirkman has been asked before. And now, he’s given an answer.
Kirkman was responding to something a fan wrote on the letter’s page of The Walking Dead Deluxe #32 by Image and Skybound Comics. “God is make-believe in the world of The Walking Dead,” the author replied. Okay then.
So according to Kirkman, there is no God in the universe, which would seem to rule out theories that the zombie apocalypse is some kind of divine retribution. That said, religion is woven into the fabric of the series through characters like Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam).
No one tell Father Gabriel about this
The same reader asked why we hadn’t read about or seen certain characters praying in the series. According to Kirkman, he believes that characters like Hershel do pray, but apparently those prayers aren’t being heard by any higher authority.
I wonder is Kirkman’s proclamation will tick off fans. But it’s his story, and he has the freedom to write it how he wants. So if he says God doesn’t exist, then he doesn’t exist…at least not in The Walking Dead universe.
