Fans have been waiting over a decade for a sequel to Avatar, James Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi movie about a man who transfers his consciousness into the body of an alien known as a Na’vi and adopts their culture as his own.

Well, they’re about to get all the sequel they can handle. Avatar: The Way of Water comes out in theaters on December 16, and it will run for 3 hours as 12 minutes.

That’s quite a bit longer than the original Avatar, which ran for 2 hours and 41 minutes. And that’s still pretty long!

Avatar: The Way of Water movie length

Then again, director James Cameron has never been a guy to shy away from making mondo-length movies. Titanic, another one of his huge smash successes, ran for 3 hours and 14 minutes, even longer than Avatar 2.

And hey, Titanic is one of the most highest grossing movies in the history of cinema, so who are we to question how big is too big? The only two movies that have grossed more money at the box office than Titanic are Avengers: Endgame, which ran for 3 hours and 2 minutes; and the original Avatar movie. Clearly, Cameron knows what he’s doing.

Fans will be able to make up their own minds soon enough!
