House of the Dragon among most Googled TV shows of 2022
By Dan Selcke
It’s the end of the year, which means it’s time to look back on the last 12 months, ask “How much time did I spend watching TV?” realize the answer is “a lot,” be at peace with that, and then find out who else was in the same boat.
To that end, Google has released its annual lists of search terms for the year. What was the most searched news story of 2022? The most searched people? The most searched TV shows and movies?
Let’s start with the TV shows. Here are the top 10 most Googled shows of 2022:
- Euphoria
- House of the Dragon
- Moon Knight
- The Watcher
- Inventing Anna
- Dahmer
- The Boys
- All of Us Are Dead
- The Sandman
- Heartstopper
Obviously, it’s great to see HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel show House of the Dragon take second place on this list. And first place winner Euphoria is still playing for Team HBO, so I’m sure the execs over there are happy.
In general, fantasy and sci-fi had a great year; in addition to House of the Dragon, Moon Knight, The Boys, All of Us Are Dead and The Sandman roughly fall into those genres. Half the list ain’t bad!
Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Adam were the most Googled movies of 2022
Over at the movies, the genre dominance continues. In particular, superheroes continued to command people’s interest. Take a look at the top 10:
- Thor: Love and Thunder
- Black Adam
- Top Gun: Maverick
- The Batman
- Encanto
- Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva
- Jurassic World Dominion
- K.G.F: Chapter 2
- Uncharted
- Morbius
And what was the most searched term of the entire year? “Wordle.” Obviously.
