Yes, The Walking Dead has finally ended after 11 seasons on the air, but the franchise will live on in the form of numerous spinoff shows. The first to premiere will be Dead City, which follows the unlikely duo of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they head to New York City.

There are a lot of unanswered questions about the spinoff, not least of all why Maggie would travel with Negan. Surely he’s the last person she wants to spend time with? And why New York City? It’s probably swarming with zombies. Only time will tell. Watch the teaser below:

If what Jeffrey Dean Morgan said about Negan reverting to his “bad habits” in Dead City is true, we’ll almost definitely see some tension between these two. Of course, in the series finale of the main show, Maggie ultimately allows Negan and his pregnant wife Annie to live in their community. But despite going against her instincts and allowing Negan sanctuary, she still finds it hard to be in his presence. “It’s going to be really, really hard for her to continue,” star Lauren Cohan told Entertainment Weekly, “even with the best intentions she had of letting Negan have his territory and her getting on with her life and finding the hope and trying to build this future.”

Maggie’s biggest weakness is exploited…but what is her biggest weakness?

Over the course of The Walking Dead, Maggie has been through everything, from losing her husband Glenn and raising her son by herself to leading her own community and going to war. She’s just about as tough a survivor as they come. But according to Cohan, in Dead City, her “greatest weakness” is taken advantage of:

"When we go into the new show, Maggie’s greatest weakness is definitely exploited. Sometimes it’s not the big things that are the hard things, it’s the little things. And those little things become very, very big things because they are our own blind spots, and they are our own greatest weakness."

So what could this weakness be? Well, there is one obvious answer: her son, Hershel. Everything Maggie does revolves around giving Hershel a better life. If you could do one thing to get on Maggie’s bad side, it’s mess with Hershel. Perhaps Hershel is kidnapped and taken to New York City? We can only guess.

Mysterious weakness aside, the unfamiliar landscape of NYC will take Maggie by surprise. We know just how perilous cities can be; look no further than when Rick visited Atlanta in The Walking Dead series premiere. Given the population density of Manhattan, things could get very ugly. “She has to go through this new terrain of going into New York City. That’s going to be really difficult and physically challenging,” Cohan teased.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere in April 2023. We’ve also got the Daryl Dixon show to look forward to, as well as Fear The Walking Dead season 8 and the Rick Grimes and Michonne series. Bring on the zombies!
