For years, fans have been hoping that Donald Glover would play Miles Morales in a live-action Spider-Man film. While that’s not happening, Glover is getting his own Spider-Film…sort of.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Glover is set to star in and produce a Sony Pictures film revolving around Spider-Man villain Hypno-Hustler. Myles Murphy, the son of Eddie Murphy, is said to be attached to the project as its writer.

So who is Hypno-Hustler And how does he fit into the larger Marvel universe? We’ve got all the details for you below!

Donald Glover to star as Spider-Man villain Hypno-Hustler

Inspired by the 1970s disco music scene, Hypno-Hustler was created by writer Bill Mantlo (who also created Rocket Racoon) and artist Frank Springer. The villain first appeared in Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man Volume 1, Number 24. His real name was Antoine Delsoin and he was the leader of a band called the Mercy Killers. His band uses their instruments to hypnotize audiences and steal from them.

So far as Spider-Man villains go, Hypno-Hustler is pretty obscure. But he could be interesting with Glover playing him, especially given his links to music. And because Hypno-Hustler isn’t well-known, it gives Glover and company the freedom to take the character in whatever direction they please. We could get a disco movie or some futuristic hip-hop story; the possibilities are endless.

As mentioned, Glover’s name has been unofficially associated with the Spider-Man world for quite some time. Fans wanted him to play Spidey in The Amazing Spider-Man; of course, those movies were fronted by Andrew Garfield. However, Glover did voice Spider-Man/Miles Morales in the Disney XD series Ultimate Spider-Man back in 2015. So he has gotten to play Miles, just not in live-action. (He also had a cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming; it was implied in a deleted scene that he was playing Miles Morales’ uncle.)

We don’t have a title or release date for Glover’s movie yet, but stay tuned for updates!
