Who doesn’t love Deadpool? When Ryan Reynolds dons the iconic red-and-black suit, he dials the charm up to 11, making us laugh endlessly. In Deadpool 3, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will make his triumphant return to the big screen… only to be constantly irked by Deadpool.
So how does it come to be that Wolverine and Deadpool team up? Well, we don’t have exact details yet, but we know that the movie takes place in a different timeline from Logan (2017), where Wolverine died at the end. Mortality is never permanent in superhero universes. In this case, the characters use some kind of time-hopping device to cheat it.
“It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines,” Jackman explained to SiriusXM. “Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to screw with the ‘Logan’ timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too.”
It’s huge to fans that the Logan timeline isn’t tampered with. Wolverine’s death at the end of the movie felt final. It gave fans a proper, heartfelt farewell to the character. If he were suddenly resurrected, it would feel like a betrayal.
Wolverine and Deadpool really hate each other!
As for why Wolverine and Deadpool seek each other out, well, opposites attract, right? Apparently the situation that they find themselves in means they they simply have to work together, something that Logan is not keen on.
“I’m just talking from my perspective,” Jackman told Variety. “ frustrated by him wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head. Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot.”
Jackman puts it simply by saying that the pair of them “hate each other.” It makes for good viewing though. If the partnership between Deadpool and Cable in the second movie is anything to go by, expect this to be even more chaotic.
Deadpool 3 is still some ways off. Currently, it is slated to premiere in theaters in November 2024.
