Future seasons of Interview With The Vampire may be told from Lestat’s perspective
By Dan Selcke
The first season of AMC’s Interview With The Vampire show was a hit with both critics and fans; it brought Anne Rice’s classic tale of the undead to life in a new way, and people are hungry for more.
The first season ended about halfway through Rice’s novel, as the vampires Louis and Claudia kill Lestat, the senior member of their trio, and make for Europe. (Or at least they seemed to kill him; the narrators on this show are known to be unreliable at times.)
“We’re going to Europe and Part 2 of the novel is Episode 1 of Season 2,” showrunner Rolin Jones told AMC.com. “So, we’re going there and we’re going to experience that. Then we’re going to Paris. We’re going to see what coven life is all about, and we have some more time than the movie or even the book. We’re continuing to make the interview part of this and just as important as the flashback, in that there are some very active things that are going to be happening in Dubai. Then, more than anything, and we teased it out a little in Season 1, the idea of memory and what is true and what isn’t true is a big player in Season 2. It’s all going towards, groping towards, who am I? How did I get here? What is to become of me now? There’s a lot!”
Interview With The Vampire season 2 will finish the original book
But what about after that? Once Interview With The Vampire is done adapting…Interview With The Vampire, where does it go? Speaking to the Toronto Star, producer Adam O’Byrne said we may get a brand new interview, this time with Lestat.
“In the season three that Rolin has in his head, I think there will be some kind of Lestat perspective, let’s put it that way,” O’Byrne said. “Whether that’s sitting down to have an interview or some other device to show the world through his eyes.”
After Interview, the next book in Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series is The Vampire Lestat. This book takes place after Louis’ interview is published, and Lestat wants to tell his side of the story. He goes into his past as well as what he’s up to now, but also gives his take on some of the events we heard about from Louis.
That could provide a way to include Louis even after Rice mostly writes him out of the story. “The way we have envisioned the show from a racially diverse perspective is something that will continue to be a priority for us,” O’Byrne said. “Part of that would be trying to keep Louis involved beyond the way he just dips in-and-out of the canon [after] the first book.”
When does Interview With The Vampire season 2 premiere?
So Interview With The Vampire has an exciting future. Unfortunately, it’ll probably be a minute before we get to see more of it. At the least, he doubts we’ll get new episodes by late 2023 or even early 2024. “My guess is we won’t make that window,” he said. “That is an AMC call.”
Until then, the first season is available to watch on AMC+.
