The Flash’s ninth and final season is set to premiere on The CW early next month. It will more or less mark the end of the Arrowverse saga that started 10 years ago with Arrow.

And it sounds like The Flash will honor that legacy by featuring plenty of familiar, friendly, and not-so-friendly faces returning to bid the series farewell. Honestly, I’m just waiting to hear about the return of Cisco (Carlos Valdes). He has to come back in some capacity…right?

Earlier this week, Deadline confirmed which Arrowverse alumni would pop up in the 13-episode final season. They include David Ramsey (John Diggle/Spartan), Keiynan Lonsdale (Wally West/Kid Flash), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork). Apparently all three will appear in Episode 9, which has be very curious. Will there be an epic battle? A flashback sequence? I’ll take it all!

Ramamurthy was extremely excited about returning as Bloodwork and shared the news on Instagram. Seeing him in Bloodwork’s makeup reminded me how cringe this character made me feel. Something about those black veins gives me the heebie-jeebies.

John Diggle, Keiynan Lonsdale and Sendhil Ramamurthy return for The Flash season 9

The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace shared how excited he was about the return of John Diggle. “As one of the legacy Arrowverse characters who helped start it all, John Diggle holds a special place in our hearts, as well as the fans,” he said. “Plus, the commanding presence and commitment to excellence actor/director David Ramsey brings to the screen each-and every time is truly inspiring. So, of course, it was a no-brainer to have Diggle join Team Flash in our final season! So, get ready for a very emotional reunion as John Diggle aka Spartan helps protect Central City alongside Team Flash one, last time.”

Ramsey has been a part of the Arrowverse since Day One when he first appeared in Arrow as Oliver Queen’s bodyguard. In the years since, Diggle, has become an integral part of the Arrowverse. There were even some hints that he could become the Green Lantern, but unfortunately that never happened.

As for Lonsdale’s Kid Flash, we haven’t seen him in a long time, but Wallace said that “as soon as we knew he was coming back, we set out to create a special and heartfelt story for his return. The result is a brilliant performance from Keiynan that showcases a side of Wally West you’ve never seen before.” I’m excited to see Lonsdale one last time because he too became a big part of The Flash family, and is dearly missed.

After The Flash is over, only two DC shows will remain: Superman & Lois and the upcoming new series Gotham Knights. Everything else has been canceled or has ended, so this is indeed the end of an era.

The Flash season 9 premieres on Wednesday, February 8.
