There’s a lot riding on season 3 of Netflix’s monster-hunting fantasy show The Witcher. It will be the final season to feature Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia before Liam Hemsworth dons the white wig for season 4; it’s adapting one of the most beloved books in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher saga, The Time of Contempt; and it has to win over fans after the painful fumble that was The Wither: Blood Origin spinoff. Will it be able to right the ship?

Only time will tell, but how much time exactly? We have a decent idea of when to expect The Witcher season 3, so let’s go over the latest.

The Witcher season 3 release date

While The Witcher season 3 may not be coming out in January 2023, it’s well on its way. Netflix confirmed during its Tudum event last year that season 3 would premiere in Summer 2023. To narrow things down even further, showrunner Lauren Hissrich said in an interview in December 2022 that there were around “eight-ish months or so until Witcher Season 3 comes out.” That means we should expect it around August or September.

Hissrich also revealed that while there hadn’t been discussions about potentially splitting The Witcher season 3 into two chunks, a la Stranger Things 4, it wasn’t off the table. We likely won’t find out the details until Netflix announces an actual release date for season 3, but we’ll be on the lookout for updates.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of Witcher content on Netflix these days if you need to sate your hunger for monsters, mages and mayhem. The first two seasons are available now, as well as the animated spinoff movie Nightmare of the Wolf and the live-action prequel limited series The Witcher: Blood Origin.
