House of the Dragon is the fifth “most watched” show of 2022

As we face down 2023, we also look back on the year that was, and calculate what TV shows people were were binging the hardest. Determining what series were most popular, or most watched, is tricky. If we go by which shows were searched the most on IMDb, Netflix’s Stranger Things came out on top, with HBO’s House of the Dragon taking the number two spot. When it comes to the most pirated shows of 2022, House of the Dragon was in first, followed by The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
And then there’s TV Time, a site that helps people keep track of the shows they’re interested in. The site gets around 45 million visitors a month, so it’s got a pretty rich trove of data. According to them, the long-running anime series One Piece was the most-watched TV shows of 2022, with Stranger Things coming in second and House of the Dragon fifth.

Now, I suspect that “most watched” doesn’t literally mean “most watched” but rather “most tracked on TVTime.com,” which is still a metric worth talking about. It’s worth noting that House of the Dragon is the only show to turn up on all three of the lists we’ve looked at, so you know the Game of Thrones prequel is making waves.
One Piece is the most-watched show in the world (according to TV Time)
As for One Piece, the pirate-themed anime adventure is one of the biggest anime series in history, adapted from one of the biggest manga series in history. The show has been running, if you can believe it, since 1999, so clearly it’s doing something right.
Netflix is currently working on a live-action adaptation of One Piece, although there’s no release date as of yet. As for the other shows on the list, it’s good to see The Walking Dead be in demand for its final season. Grey’s Anatomy I don’t feel one way or the other about, but I do like that The Office continues to make people happy long after it finished. That’s what she said.
