Sadie Sink: Moving on from Stranger Things is “sad” and “scary”

Things are looking pretty grim in Hawkins as we head toward the final season of Stranger Things. The show’s fourth season ended with Vecna succeeding in his nefarious plans to punch a hole in the wall between realities as the Upside Down spilled over into the sleepy Indiana town. Another gut punch: the villain had nearly killed Max Mayfield.

When last we saw Max, she was in a coma in the hospital. Actor Sadie Sink will be back for season 5, but she’s not giving away any spoilers.

“We know that it’s happening and that it’s the last season, so it’s going to be emotional, I’m sure,” Sink said on Today while promoting her new movie The Whale. “Spoiler-free, just with the way my character ended in season 4, I have no idea what is going to happen. But I’ll be there.”

Sink’s star is definitely on the rise after her standout performance in Stranger Things 4. She stars opposite Brenden Fraser in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, which has been getting a ton of buzz. But Max was Sink’s breakout role; she auditioned for Stranger Things ahead of season 2 when she was just 14 years old.

“It’s going to be awful. It’s going to be horrible,” she said about the show ending. “These kids, this entire cast and crew, it’s family. People say that all the time, but I genuinely mean it. And to think that we have to say goodbye to that security and knowing that we’re not going to be seeing each other for another season?”

"It’s scary and sad, but I think it’s exciting to kind of move on to the next chapter, I guess."

Stranger Things 5 is expected to release sometime in 2024.
