During an interview with The Movie Dweeb, The Boys actor Nathan Mitchell seemingly confirmed that his character Black Noir will be returning for season. This is despite the fact that Black Noir died near the end of season 3. Expect a twist.
“If we were going to play and remix the character, I think that everyone’s seen a very stoic version of Black Noir,” Mitchell said. “So if they were going to do something new, I think it would be fun to go in the opposite direction.”
In season 3, Homelander killed Black Noir because Black Noir knew that Soldier Boy was Homelander’s father and did not tell him. Prior to season 3, Noir was mostly a side character who served as a silent antagonist for the Boys to fight. The latest season explored his backstory, as well as how a group of imaginary cartoon characters talk to him whenever he gets a moment alone.
“I think contrast is really interesting, wherever you’re dealing with characters. And the core of Black Noir, for me, was always the contrast,” Mitchell said. “The notion of, you have this super intense killer, right, who’s menacing and scary and threatening, and then like… he talks to cartoons. He has imaginary friends, he’s really soft and sensitive.”
Since The Boys comic book has a completely different arc for Black Noir, it is unclear what the future holds for the character. Mitchell didn’t spill any more details.
The Boys stars hints at return for Black Noir
Later in the interview, Mitchell was asked about Jeffrey Dean Morgan being added to the cast. “I would say his Sun sign is ‘badass,’ and his Moon sign is ‘You don’t even want to f**king know,'” Mitchell laughed. “I don’t know how much can be revealed about that character, but I think the cool thing about this show is we’re always going in different directions and showing you different storylines and different characters in ways you wouldn’t expect, so I think that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is going to play a role that stays with fans for a long time.”
Casting Morgan in The Boys is a no-brainier. His is playing an unknown character, but I’m sure we will see elements of his iconic portrayal of Negan in The Walking Dead pop up.
Shooting for The Boys season 3 is rumored to wrap in March, meaning there is a good chance season 4 will come out this year on Amazon Prime.
