Emma D’Arcy celebrates House of the Dragon win with Milly Alcock, director
By Dan Selcke
The other night, House of the Dragon pulled off a surprise win at the 80th Annual Golden Globes, taking home the prize for Best Drama. That’s something that not even Game of Thrones ever managed to do, so celebrations were in order!
Accepting the award were showrunner Miguel Sapochnik, and actors Milly Alcock and Emma D’Arcy, who played the young and adult versions of Rhaenyra Targaryen respectively. You can tell that HBO wasn’t expecting to win the award; otherwise they would have sent more people. Still, the trio made the most of it, as you can see below:
We got some shots of the two Rhaenyras, as well:

Fashion is always a big part of these award shows, and D’Arcy in particular made an impression with their black-and-white ensemble, which mixes and matches lots of different elements. A nonbinary trans person, D’Arcy was expressing their gender identity through their outfit. “I’m also doing trans because I’m wearing some trousers and a skirt at the same time. And nothing says non-binary like wearing both a skirt and trousers,” they said. D’Arcy also said they were going for a vibe of “child piano prodigy, and maybe the recital’s not going well,” which is fantastic.
“It’s kind of a surreal thing because when I was starting out, I really felt that I had to pretend, to present as a woman in order to find success in this industry,” D’Arcy continued. “Anyway, it wasn’t sustainable, and I stopped pretending, and weirdly, it’s at that point that I got nominated for best actress at the Golden Globes, which is beautifully ironic.”
"I think the most important thing is that it implies that the space for trans people and gender-nonconforming people is getting bigger all the time. So, I feel very privileged."
Emma D’Arcy will return as Rhaenyra Targaryen when House of the Dragon comes back for a second season in 2024!
