Michelle Yeoh’s Star Trek spinoff show is still in the works
By Dan Selcke
Michelle Yeoh has had an up-and-down time of it of late. She was one of the main players in the Netflix show The Witcher: Blood Origin, which is better forgotten, but she also won a Golden Globe just the other night for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once, one of the best films of 2022. And that’s on top of starring in the Netflix movie The School for Good and Evil and the upcoming Disney+ series American Born Chinese. Yeoh is a hot commodity right now!
That might be why we’ve heard so little about a Star Trek spinoff that would purportedly revolve around her character from Star Trek: Discovery, Philippa Georgiou (well, technically a mirror version of Philippa Georgiou, who is an emperor). In a deleted scene from the season 1 finale, Georgiou was recruited into Section 31, an intelligence agency that carries out covert operations for Starfleet. That’s what the show would be about…
…if it ever happens. We’ve heard very little about the series since then, although Paramount executive Tanya Giles assured TVLine at the Television Critics Association press tour that there had been “conversations” about it. “It’s still in development,” Giles said.
Paramount+ is still working on a Section 31 Star Trek show starring Michelle Yeoh
When the Philippa Georgiou show was first announced, Paramount+ was still called CBS All Access. A lot has changed since then, including Michelle Yeoh’s profile rising. I’m sure Paramount would like to get her for a show, but how interested is she?
In the meantime, there are tons of Star Trek shows currently on the air, so Trekkies aren’t hurting for content nowadays in any case:
