This Sunday will mark the premiere of The Last of Us, HBO’s adaptation of Naughty Dog’s zombie video game franchise. The show is really good, and I’m very curious to see what kind of reactions it gets once it’s on the air.
While we wait, the cast and crew stepped out the other night at the official premiere in Los Angeles, starting with leads Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey:
Before The Last of Us, Pascal and Ramsey both acted on Game of Thrones, he as Oberyn Martell and she as Lady Lyanna Mormont. This time around they play Joel and Ellie, a hardened survivor of the zombie apocalypse and a precocious teenager who may be immune to the zombie contagion that has brought the world to its knees.
The pair of them grew close on the set of The Last of Us, as you can plainly see:

Joel and Ellie are the heart of The Last of Us, but the show has a decent-sized cast. Bill (Nick Offerman) makes a big impression in the third episode:
This premiere was cool because not only did HBO invite the cast members of the show, but also the voice actors from the original video game. That includes Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who played Joel and Ellie in both games released so far:
With original game creator Neil Druckmann on board as a producer, it’s no wonder that the show honors its roots as a video game:
Druckmann shares showrunner duties with Craig Mazin, the guy behind the HBO series Chernobyl:
This set they built for the photoshoot is great, by the way.
Get ready to fall in love with The Last of Us when it premieres this Sunday on HBO and HBO Max!
And finally, shout out to makeup artist Kiana Jones, who showed up to the Australian premiere dressed as a clicker:
I don’t even know if Jones works on the show, but I appreciate the commitment.
