Last year was pretty successful for the Star Wars franchise. Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen returned in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor was the freshest Star Wars project in a long time. This year will mark the return of The Mandalorian, perhaps the most popular SW show of all!
The official teaser trailer for The Mandalorian season 3 was pretty vague on details regarding Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), the overarching villain of the series. In fact, some fans have even wondered whether he’ll appear at all The last time we saw him, Gideon was defeated by Din Djarin in a duel. Din took the Darksaber from Moff Gideon, but his story is far from over.
Moff Gideon rises “like a phoenix from the ashes” in The Mandalorian season 3!
Speaking with TVLine, Esposito confirmed that he is most definitely in the new season, and that his role is significant. “You’re going to get some Moff Gideon. I mean, I always want more Moff Gideon — I’ve got to be honest with you! But, you know, you’re going to get a good amount of Moff Gideon.”
Season 3 begins with Gideon behind bars…but he sounds like he’ll get out sooner or later. He’s gotta get the Darksaber back, right? “You always want to see the phoenix rise from the ashes,” Esposito teased. “Or, you want to see a nefarious villain rise from the ashes. And believe me, he will.”
