Warner Bros. Discovery-owned TNT won’t air final season of Snowpiercer

First Warner Bros. Discovery decided not to release the Batgirl movie even though it was already shot. Then it opted not to air the second season of The Minx on HBO Max, even though it was already shot. Now Deadline reports that TNT, a network owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, has chosen not to air the fourth and final season of Snowpiercer, which was — say it with me — already shot.

Snowpiercer, about a dystopian future where climate change has wrecked the world and the last remnants of humanity survive aboard a high-tech train, is the last remaining original series on TNT. The decision not to air the final season is particularly egregious, since the series has been on the air for a while and has amassed a fair number of fans by this point, even if it was never a ratings juggernaut. At least no one had much opportunity to form expectations about the Batgirl movie before WBD canned it.

Will another network pick up Snowpiercer season 4?

WBD has been making moves like this in the name of tax breaks, part of a wider strategy to cut costs and reduce debt. See also them laying off employees and removing shows like Westworld off HBO Max so they can run on FAST streaming services. WBD has said that it’s now finished with these kinds of cuts…although I guess they haven’t gotten it completely out of their system.

The people who make Snowpiercer, Tomorrow Studios, are now shopping it around to another network. And there is some hope; after all, Starz opted to run the second season of The Minx after WBD let it loose. And again, Snowpiercer season 4 is already shot, so that’s covered; all a network has to do is buy the episodes and air the episodes. Hopefully fans will get to see an ending.
