RRR was a hit movie that came out of India last year. It’s an action drama about two real-life Indian revolutionaries: Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (N. T. Rama Rao Jr.), who fight against the British Raj.
It’s a historical movie that nonetheless has plenty of pulse-pounding action scenes that have drawn attention outside of India. N. T. Rama Rao Jr., aka NTR Jr., in particular has gotten attention for his highly physical performance, as well as his superhero physique.
The actor had to work hard to put on 15 pounds of muscle for the role. “I was eating seven goddamn meals a day — 4,000 calories!” he told Variety at a recent screening of the film in Los Angeles.

Might that translate to the Hollywood-superhero complex? Marvel is always making something; maybe they could use a guy like NTR Jr. “I would love to do it,” the actor said. “I’m waiting for it to happen.”
For the record, his favorite Marvel character is Iron Man. “He’s so relatable,” NTR Jr. said. “He is someone like us. He does not have superpowers. He doesn’t come from a different planet. He’s not someone who has been put through a science experiment and become the Hulk.”
If the Marvel Cinematic Universe keeps expanding at the rate it’s been going, there should plenty of work for everybody. In the meantime, you can watch RRR now on Netflix.
