In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man is something of a comic relief character. The two previous Ant-Man movies have served as palette cleaners after intense Avengers movies. However, as the franchise moves into Phase 5, that’s all about to change. Veteran hero Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) goes on a different kind of adventure in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Speaking with Empire, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige spoke about Scott Lang’s place in the franchise. He’s no longer the “back-up or the comic relief” but instead has a “position at the front of the podium of the MCU” akin to Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Stephen Strange. “The first discussion we had was, ‘What if Ant-Man is accidentally in an Avengers movie by himself?“ said writer Jeff Loveness.
The villain of the piece is Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), which helps sell the seriousness of the situation. With the ability to control and manipulate timelines, Kang is poised to become the next Thanos-level villain in the MCU. He’s already appeared in Phase 4 (he made a cameo in the season 1 finale of Loki), but Quantumania will mark his big screen debut.
Director Peyton Reed expressed his excitement over pitting these characters against each other. “We’re not running around the streets of San Francisco anymore. We’re fighting one of the most powerful villains in Marvel history, and maybe these are the most unlikely Avengers to be the first to go up against this guy,” he said.
Sounds like the “Multiverse Saga” is finally going to reach a tipping point. The next Avangers movie “The Kang Dynasty” will premiere in 2025, which promises to be an Endgame-level showdown. The Kang era begins now, folks!

The latest addition to the Quantumania cast is The Good Place star William Jackson Harper as Quaz. According to Empire, he’s a telepath and an ally in the fight to take down Kang.
