Obviously, M3GAN 2 is coming (M2GAN?)

M3GAN, a new movie about a robotic doll that starts murdering people, has been a big hit at the box office. Budgeted at only $12 million, it’s pulled in $100 million and still going. Let us dance in celebration:

That means it’s ripe for a sequel. And indeed, Variety reports that one is one the way: M3GAN 2.0.

This is beside the point, but the producers have made things a little awkward by sticking a number right there in the original title. What if they called the sequel M2GAN? But that wouldn’t make much sense, and then what happens when they get to the third movie? Whatever, M3GAN 2.0 it is.

M3GAN 2.0 is coming

In the first movie, M3GAN is a robot companion invented by Gemma (Allison Williams), who is looking for a way to occupy her orphan niece, Cady (Violet McGraw). M3GAN is creepy from the jump — all dolls are — but goes off the rails when she perceives certain people as threats to Cady. Naturally, they’ve gotta go.

M3GAN is bested by the end of the movie, but like all good horror films, it’s suggested that she might not be gone for good. And apparently she isn’t.

Both Williams and McGraw will return for the sequel, as will writer Akela Cooper. There’s no word on whether director Gerard Johnstone will come back. Ditto Jenna Davis and Amie Donald, who played M3GAN herself; Davis provided the voice and Donald the movement.
